Love Songs to Cats, Sunday at the Cat

It's a banner week in Gay News of the Weird! First, Kentucky Derby champion War Emblem, retired to stud for millions a shot, continues to "show no interest in mares," and today some good citizens of the island of Lesbos are suing the Homosexual and Lesbian Community of Greece for insulting their identity. "My sister can't say she is a Lesbian," says one Lesbian plaintiff, but not that kind of lesbian, in all seriousness.

How now to segue into what I want to talk about? I'll tell you what's NOT about scorned lady horses and angry Lesbians: Women Rock Night!
"An on-going concert series featuring femme-friendly bands to benefit Girls Rock! DC," a rock camp for area girls this coming August. The show features Kathy Cashel's band Cat Furniture, with Philly's Maple Rabbit and NY's Lisa Jaeggi. Cat Furniture guitarist Beef Shellington describes their sound: "It's loud, but sometimes soft, and we write songs about cats, taking up too much space, liberace, and party manners, just to name a few...and this will be our first show. And we're all cat lovers."

What's not to love? Sunday, 8pm at the Black Cat, and $8 for a great cause.
