TNG review is spot on with regard to musical "feast or famine". DJ's set was brutal: 90% old skool hip hop, 5% awkward interjections (Pet Shop Boys), 5% dead air. God bless him...he was cute, and I think he was really trying.

Advertised as "...electro-rock indie dance night with an assortment of queer performance and video art thrown in for good measure." And it used to be. Last night...not so much. I'm left with the impression the baby's been left on the church steps. According to the website, "Next TAINT on Sunday, Oct 12th at DC9 (DC9) pre-Columbus Day". Thanks for taking the time...

Taint-ed. Pull the nose up. The managers the DJ, which i guess who can really tell him how pathetic the music is. So yes, Cobalt has done all it can do to drive its consumers...away, to bars and clubs that APPRECIATE there business.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33930404.post-13868444819884175462008-09-05T17:03:00.000-04:002008-09-05T17:03:00.000-04:002008-09-05T17:03:00.000-04:00No need to cab it. You can take the blue/orange line over to eastern market and walk to Bachelor's Mill in about 7 minutes.Benhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02323596711465616464noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33930404.post-44848655993308194362008-09-05T15:50:00.000-04:002008-09-05T15:50:00.000-04:002008-09-05T15:50:00.000-04:00Thanks for the comment, Ryan. I have never, not in NYC, L.A., etc., seen a gay club that plays all the music I really love (except maybe Atlanta), and I was very happy when I found it.

I have to say that Bachelor's Mill is one of the best kept secrets of DC. Although it can be a bit pricey between taking a cab there and back (highly recommended, I was mugged coming back the first time I went) and the high cover (I think it was $9-12 last time I went) the music, the people, the atmosphere is amazing.

Totally unlike any other gay spot in the city besides Delta Elite (which is fun but I really don't have the energy to be out till 6am). Yes I will say I am often one of the few white faces there, but that's what makes it so awesome; you will never run into a the same old crowd here. And when you order a beer, you get a 22 oz.

So if I've sold you, get a crowd of friends together and go, you won't regret it if you like great hip-hop and house.Ryan Alvarezhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14439081208219065980noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33930404.post-65366426926612178022008-07-21T14:53:00.000-04:002008-07-21T14:53:00.000-04:002008-07-21T14:53:00.000-04:00Personally I think Taint ain't all that! The music...Personally I think Taint ain't all that! The music sucked usually, the live acts were from hunger, and it's all about making money for the bar. Tried it many a times in hopes that it might get better and doing my bit to support the "alternative" to gay bars. But frankly, it wasn't that different, all I saw was a bunch of gays guys that are probably too afraid to really go out on their own to meet men, but truly wish they could. Instead, hang out, with their fag hags, longing to have Mister right come up to them and whisk them away.

Bagel anyone?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33930404.post-40140563899286507932008-06-28T01:22:00.000-04:002008-06-28T01:22:00.000-04:002008-06-28T01:22:00.000-04:00We're all obligated to try out the standard under-...We're all obligated to try out the standard under-35 bar, yes? So, I went to Cobalt at around 2230 today to watch the evening unfold. In short, nothing happened. Not upstairs, not downstais. The place was close to empty.

A quick poll upon my exit shortly before 0100 suggested that "this place is soooooo struggling!". The Cobalt crowd has moved to Town, I was told, where I would be privileged to pay a $15 cover.

Another interlouctor claimed that last Friday was twice as busy but still pathetic.

And, I am sorry to say, you are right to slam the music: it sucks. I thought maybe you were being pretentious and complaining about too many old disco standards. No. It's nothing like that. The music is a bass drum and virtually nothing else.

For whatever it was previously worth, Cobalt is dead, at least on Fridays. Maybe underwear Thursdays are still worth a shot.

Back home for some tunes, a nightcap, and a better night's sleep than I had anticipated.SPFnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33930404.post-65213055026579178732008-05-19T23:04:00.000-04:002008-05-19T23:04:00.000-04:002008-05-19T23:04:00.000-04:00Anon:We have solicited contributors from all walks...Anon:

We have solicited contributors from all walks of life since day one. The upstairs lounge is closed on Thursdays and Saturdays.
2. In my not so humble opinion, the only reliable thing about the food at DIK is how awful it is. The pasta is overcooked, the bread is rock-hard, and they probably use Prego for sauce. Not to mention contributing to America's obesity epidemic with their giganormous portions. $15 for a huge plate of really bad food? No thanks!!Arishttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00509191743240049948noreply@blogger.com
