If we didnt enforce this rule there would be tons of marines as well as random people off the street coming in to gawk at women in the ONLY place that we have. Ziegfelds and secrets also had the same rule that applied to women having a male escort in order to enter. Its just to maintain the dignity and the privacy of our customers.
Also, as a phase one employee who works the door I promise we do not charge the men any more than the women.Sylviehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02392232922670145261noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33930404.post-14665648397500123072008-04-17T11:25:00.000-04:002008-04-17T11:25:00.000-04:00"but it really is one of the most welcoming places..."but it really is one of the most welcoming places in DC for queers of all kinds."... as long as they're not male. Granted, gay men have lots of venues, but they're all crap. Maybe I want to hang out with my lady friends at a cool queer space.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33930404.post-14856328773038345542008-04-17T11:19:00.000-04:002008-04-17T11:19:00.000-04:00I'm happy to hear from another Phase 1 fan! I am by no means a regular (I live in NW, so the Phase is a bit out of the way for me), but it really is one of the most welcoming places in DC for queers of all kinds. Long live the Phase!Khttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07639259887013033766noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33930404.post-75439701297856084112008-04-16T18:39:00.000-04:002008-04-16T18:39:00.000-04:00Men are not supposed to be charged extra cover...t...Men are not supposed to be charged extra cover...that might be a false rumor or if you've experienced it, really shitty.

As far as the "all males must have a female escort" policy is concerned, it was established by the owner to protect the patrons of the bar. The same policy, in reverse, was held at Ziegfeld's (more specifically Secrets) to keep bachelorette parties out of the club. It's really something that is now judged by whomever is working and not strictly held onto as a relevant policy. It's done for safety reasons, or to keep the numbers skewed in the favor of the people for whom the bar is intended. I mean, there are a ton of straight bars on 8th Street as well as Marine barracks...it does make some sense even though it's often frustrating to deal with.

Hope that helps clear things up!Meaghanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03991419259093284906noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33930404.post-54317264235751899832008-04-16T18:24:00.000-04:002008-04-16T18:24:00.000-04:00Just curious, why do guys need a female companion ...Just curious, why do guys need a female companion to get in? Why are guys charged additional cover at the door? I would like to go, but from what I've heard, I don't feel very welcome. Sound great though, the way you describe it.

Is this a response to what that other girl wrote earlier? I'm not sure the two sentiments are mutually exclusive. Then again, I'm not a lesbian. I'm learning a lot about lesbian life on this site! Why aren't more guy writers sending stuff?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
